25 June 2010 - Italian farmers appreciate the new route to market
In the run-up to the launch of Taberneria we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from Italian farmers about what we are doing. Making little known producers more visible and selling almost direct to the public is helping them enormously. Rising costs of production combined with declining incomes have for the past few years been a constant battle. It’s nice to know Taberneria, no matter how small we are, make a difference.
27 May 2010 - Organic vs non-organic update
Since launch we have had a debate on the validity of offering purely organic products that carry a certified validation in some way. However, as our founding principle was to bring the products of Italian farms to you, the overriding aspect of the produce is that it is from a historical and family borne method using ingredients that are not mass produced in any way. So organic is in but not on absolutely everything. We think this is best because we have found some fabulous produce which although uncertified, is brilliant none the less.
20 April 2010 - Meletti added to Taberneria
Silvio Meletti began producing liquors back in 1870. Then it was made by his mother in a small shop. How brilliant it is that all these years later, Meletti is being sold in our little shop too! Not only does Meletti produce the finest in our opinion anisetta and lemon liquors, the creative labelling and style is historically fascinating. We welcome Meletti to our shelves. We hope you try it soon.
